Hollywood has a number of celebrities with Ukrainian roots. Some of them are first-generation immigrants.
With the ongoing war against Russia, this conflict is hitting home for Hollywood celebrities with ties to Ukraine, including Milla Jovovich and Mila Kunis.
Here’s what they have to say about the tragic war going on in their homeland…
Milla Jovovich Opens Up in an Emotional IG Post
Milla Jovovich is most well-known for her performances in films like Resident Evil, The Fifth Element, and thrillers like The Perfect Getaway.
She was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1975. She then came to the United States as a young girl in the early 1980s, moving to Sacramento and then Los Angeles.
In an emotional Instagram post, Jovovich opened up about what’s going on back in Ukraine. She said she is “heartbroken” and said friends of hers are sheltering from airstrikes and hiding from the war.
Jovovich has family ties to Russia as well and says the war has “torn” her in half. With her father hailing from Yugoslavia, Jovovich has seen what wars between brother nations do and it’s horrific.
She says the stories of the “trauma and terror” her dad told her about from the Balkan war will always stay with her. She is tired of “imperialism” drowning nations in “bloodshed” and suffering, which is always paid by the common people and never the elite.
Jovovich certainly has a point; although the Ukraine war has one inspiring aspect which is this: President Volodymyr Zelensky and his cabinet have remained in Ukraine to fight.
This includes Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who has taken up arms to defend the country. This brings us to our next celebrity to speak out on Ukraine: Vitali’s younger brother and fellow famous boxer, Wladimir Klitschko.
Here are some people you may know that have Ukrainian heritage or from 🇺🇦Ukraine🇺🇦;
Ruth Bader Ginsberg
The list goes on.

Wladimir Klitschko Speaks Out
Like his mayor brother Vitali, Wladimir Klitschko has also spoken out on Ukraine and is there now fighting for the military. With the nickname Dr. Steelhammer, this is not a man you want to mess with under any circumstances.
Despite having all the opportunities to stay in the United States and having been married to Hollywood starlet Hayden Panettiere, Klitschko’s priority is defending Ukraine.
Posting recently on LinkedIn, Klitschko made his dedication clear, saying he stands firmly against Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Putin’s “war rhetoric.”
According to Klitschko, Putin is trying to “destroy” Ukraine and following in the path of the Bolsheviks who murdered millions in their quest to impose dictatorial communism on the Soviet Union.
Writing more, Klitschko said Ukrainians like him will not let “fear” win and will defend their country with all their “might.” This is one man who is putting his money where his mouth is, that much is certain!

What Does Mila Kunis Have to Say?
Another big star with Ukrainian roots is Mila Kunis.
She was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983. In fact, she only immigrated to the US at the age of seven after her Jewish Ukrainian family fled the nation in the aftermath of the chaos in 1991.
Although Kunis has spoken before about growing up in a good situation in Ukraine, she clearly is feeling the suffering of the people there; her husband, Ashton Kutcher, posted his support recently on Twitter.
