Even progressives always claimed abortion was intended to be “safe, legal and rare.”
Many strong supporters of abortion rights also like to say Republicans and conservatives are only “pro-birth” and don’t care about the actual wellbeing of pregnant women, young kids, and the vulnerable.
These, of course, are simply justifications for on-demand abortion, not true ethical concerns.
Now, that mask is slipping off, especially since the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) last month.
The most disturbing example comes out of Michigan, where Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer is directly slashing the benefits and resources for pregnant women in her state.
Whitmer’s Wicked Actions
Michigan has many good state legislators who care about life and the rights of pregnant women and their kids.
To this end, the state’s conservatives regularly fund a number of programs to help get kids adopted, help pregnant women obtain counseling, and give places where women who are unexpectedly pregnant can go and give birth without a huge cost.
Now, Whitmer has put forward her governor’s veto and scrapped these measures. She doesn’t want money going to help kids find loving adoptive families, tax credits for families who adopt, or help and services for pregnant women.
No, she wants to pursue the Democratic agenda and push abortion on women who are in difficult situations with a pregnancy.
What about the whole line claiming that Democrats are so compassionate regarding young kids and benefits? Where did that propaganda go?

Response to the End of Roe v. Wade
Protests, arson, and rioting from the left over the end of Roe v. Wade have not been as bad as some feared. It’s clearly because Joe Biden and his backers called off a lot of the mob and the funding for it in advance of the midterms.
They don’t need those optics of a summer 2020 bloodbath ahead of pretending to be reasonable, middle-American, pro-worker politicians in November.
Though on the state level, it’s a bit of a different story. The overturning of Roe put abortion back to the state level, as such issues should be, according to the Constitution.
While Republicans have generally moved to regulate abortion and debate its legality at the state level, Democrats simply tried to force through the codification of abortion rights at the state level.
Part of that is to defund things that help women avoid abortions and help bring more options for adoption and other alternatives to killing unborn kids.
Basically, the Democrats here are seeking to create a zero-sum game and use babies as hostages.
Their tactic is obvious and repulsive: to require state legislatures support on-demand abortion or they will work to remove all resources that help women avoid and mitigate some of the factors that lead to abortion.
