Carbon Taxes? Yes Please, Says Washington State

Washington state’s progressive government led by Democrat Jay Inslee is determined to make life harder for ordinary Americans. 

Economic recession and pandemic? More taxes and regulations, thanks. 

The latest is a proposed large carbon tax to make it more difficult to purchase gas for your vehicle or run a business, which passed Washington’s state house 27-22 after being approved in the Senate. 

“We are genuinely, authentically on the march toward Paris accord levels of emissions reductions,” bragged the bill’s sponsor Senator Reuven Carlyle.

Those who have to pay the extra costs while polluters like China and India surge ahead and destroy the atmosphere may not share Carlyle’s enthusiasm.

Details of the New Carbon Tax

There is good news on this carbon tax. It doesn’t go into effect until 2023 and it only kicks in if Washington state’s government can pass a state spending package on transportation that would raise gas tax by five cents a gallon in the remaining 105 days of their legislative session. 

That’s possible, but not very probable. However, these determined Democrats say they’re still going to work at it once the session ends, so it sounds like this could become law by 2023. 

The carbon tax is based around a cap-and-invest scheme that will keep putting more and more limits on how much carbon can be emitted by companies and vehicles, including special restrictions on all greenhouse gases. 

If you’re a company you either have to bring down your pollution and meet the limits or pay money for your pollution that will be used to switch to renewable energy, electric vehicles and other environmental technology. The end goal is net zero emissions by 2050. 

The goal is admirable except that the main burden will be falling on ordinary Americans and Washingtonians who drive cars, run businesses and want to try to still achieve the American dream. Big corporations and the ultra wealthy can always find a way to pay off and lobby government and it’s always the little guy who suffers from these progressive idiocies. 

Ironically, this will especially hurt Black Washingtonians and poor minorities, not that the Democrats care. 

“What I feel in my heart right now is a very heavy weight, because I know that there are families in my district from across the racial demographic who will never be able to bear the weight of what this bill promises,” said Republican State Senator Ann Rivers. 

A Closer Look

Environmental activists in Washington are happy about the bill, and that’s sad. Environmental advocates have been linked to depopulation agendas and other strange ideologies, and they are increasingly detached from the common people who live and work next to them as they pursue their pipe dream. 

Talk to me when environmentalists go protest on the streets of Beijing or have hunger strikes outside the Chinese embassy. Never going to happen. Instead they use their advocacy to push ordinary people to feel guilty and have a poorer, harder life. 

Need proof? A rep for the massive BP energy company praised the bill saying it’s a big step forward for “lowering carbon emissions.” Why would the rep do that if it’s going to hurt his company? Like I said, the big guys always have a way out. 

And the Democrats in Washington aren’t done yet, either. Their dreams of creating a world of restriction, high cost and complete control are starting to come true and they’re getting excited. They have a fuel restriction bill lined up to vote on as well that will make gas even more expensive on top of all the new carbon taxes that are on their way.
